Chris Avellone, game designer and writer has announced that he’s finished up work on EA’s latest Star Wars title – Star Wars: Jedi Fallen Order. He’s also working on a secret project that may be announced in the next month.
Avellone is known for his writing behind several story-driven video games, including the sequel to one of the most popular Star Wars titles ever made, Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords. While the game had a rushed development, many fans argue that Kotor II: The Sith Lords has better writing and lore than it’s predecessor. His more recent video game works includes such titles as Divinity: Original Sin II, Prey and Into the Breach. Avellone was also on the writing team at Obsidian for Fallout: New Vegasand he was the lead storyteller for Pathfinder: Kingmaker.
Other than Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and his secret, unannounced project, Avellone’s future work also includes Dying Light 2.
At this moment in time, we don’t know much about Jedi: Fallen Order at this point, but leaks indicate that it will take place shortly after Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, and will be about a Padawan who managed to survive Order 66 and explore the galaxy in the time after the fall of the Jedi Order. It will also be singleplayer-only, which might seem a bit unusual for Respawn, whose previous games include Titanfall and Apex Legends.
As the lead designer on Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, Avellone helped shape what is probably still the most nuanced depiction of the Force in any Star Wars game to date. And his LinkedIn page confirms that he did work with Respawn from February of 2018 to January of this year doing story work, story/character reviews, and cinematic scripts for Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order. If Avellone’s involvement means similar things for Fallen Order, that is a promising sign.
As long as EA doesn’t get it’s fingerprints on it, stubby tiny microtransation fingerprints.
EA has announced that more details about Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be revealed at this year’s Star Wars Celebration in Chicago. The event is scheduled from April 11th-15th, with the Jedi Fallen Order reveal set for Saturday, April 13th during a special panel.
