Dominic Monaghan Joins the Cast of Star Wars: Episode IX

Lord of the Rings and Lost star, Dominic Monaghan will be reuniting with J.J. Abrams for Star Wars Episode IX. Monaghan has expressed interest in appearing in a Star Wars movie, and has spoken about broaching the subject with Abrams after the director signed up for 2015’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens. During that time, Abrams told him he would be building a cast of unknowns for the seventh film in the saga, similar to the stars of the original Star Wars. At this moment in time, Monaghan’s role in next years Episode IX is unknown.

Earlier on Friday Monaghan teased his involvement with cryptic messaged, quoting Alec Guinness’ Ben Kenobi: “More Powerful Than You Can Possibly Imagine on his Instagram:

Star Wars: Episode IX began production on August 1st and will be directed by J.J. Abrams, with both Abrams and Chris Terrio penning the script.

Episode IX’s cast includes Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Kelly Marie Tran, Joonas Suotamo and Billie Lourd. New stars include Naomi Ackie, Logan actor Richard E. Grant and Keri Russell, while Original Trilogy stars Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels and Billy Dee Williams are also set to return. With the late Carrie Fisher appearing as Leia for one last time thanks to unused footage from Episode VII: The Force Awakens.

Star Wars Episode IX will be released in theatres on December 20th, 2019.
