Star Wars: Resistance Synopsis Introduces the Show’s Main Protagonist

The German Disney-XD channel has today released an official synopsis for the ever first episode of Star Wars: Resistance. Introducing the show’s main protagonist named Kaz Xiono, along with hints at what to expect from the upcoming Star Wars animated series.

According to the German website Fernsehserien, the German Disney XD has revealed quite a bit of info about the show. The first season will consist of 22 episodes, with the first episode bearing the title “The Recruit”. Prominent German Star Wars fan JediFlorian took to Twitter with a translation of the synopsis:

Resistance fighter Poe Dameron tasks young pilot Kazuda “Kaz” Xiono with spying on the First Order. At the time, little was known about the secretive organisation and its strength.

In order to fulfill his mission, Kaz travels to the space station Colossus, which is being used by many ships as a port to refuel and do repairs. However, there are also dangerous races taking place there. After Kaz bragged with his piloting skills at his arrival there, he is soon drawn into one of the races…

This synopsis confirms Disney’s earlier announcement. It’s highly likely to take place soon after the events of the Canon novel Bloodline written by Claudia Gray. Bloodline centers on Leia Organa as she serves as a member of the Galactic Senate of the New Republic. Throughout the novel, Princess Leia contends with different threats to the Republic, along with the growing threat and presence of The First Order. Which ultimately leads to the formation of the Resistance that would appear in The Force Awakens. With the Resistance attempting to learn everything they can about the mysterious new galactic power.

Many of the new Star Wars novels set after the events of Episode VI: Return of the Jedi have already teased that the Resistance have learnt a lot about the notorious First Order through their spy network. The novel Phasma written by Delilah S. Dawson, reveals that the Resistance know of names and backgrounds of some of the high-level First Order operatives, and were even familiar with the First Order’s internal politics. Kaz will likely be an important figure in the Resistance’s ranks in collecting this vital information.

Dave Filoni, the creator of the animated Star Wars: Resistance, along with both the Clone Wars and Rebels has previously said:

“The idea for Star Wars Resistance came out of my interest in World War II aircraft and fighter pilots, my grandfather was a pilot and my uncle flew and restored planes, so that’s been a big influence on me. There’s a long history of high-speed racing in Star Wars, and I think we’ve captured that sense of excitement in an anime-inspired style, which is something the entire team has been wanting to do for a long time.”

The Star Wars Resistance voice cast includes Christopher Sean (Days of Our Lives), Suzie McGrath (East Enders), Scott Lawrence (Legion), Myrna Velasco (Elena of Avalor), Josh Brener (Silicon Valley), Donald Faison(Scrubs), Bobby Moynihan (DuckTales), Jim Rash (Community) and Rachel Butera (Tammy’s Tiny Tea Time). The animated series will also have Oscar Issac and Gwendoline Christie joining the cast, reprising their roles of Poe Dameron and  Captain Phasma.

Star Wars Resistance will premiere this fall on Disney Channel in the U.S. and on Disney XD around the world.
