Jonathan Kasdan Reveals That Lando, the Smoothest Man in the Galaxy is Pansexual

Solo: A Star Wars Story co-writer Jonathan Kasdan, son of Lawrence Kasdan has confirmed in a recent interview that Lando Calrissian is Pansexual. (Will let you take a moment for that to sink in). Okay, sorted? Good, good. This I think is going to be received in a few ways:

  1. Hmmm okay, I can see that, given how much of a charmer and flirt he is.
  2. Ehh, not bothered. Why maybe?

Okay the last one is an exaggeration of sorts, though I’ve already seen a reaction or two close to that already. I myself I’m not bothered by it. I’ll get into that later but story first.

Co-Writer Jonathan Kasdan has gone ahead and confirmed that Lando Calrissian, played by Donald Glover in the latest film, is pansexual. Meaning his sexual preferences are not limited in sexual choice with regard to biological sex, gender, or gender identity. Similar to that of Wade Wilson aka Deadpool. Though with it being Star Wars add species and/or droids to that too. (Can you get with a droid? Well, there was Jude Law in that A.I. movie by Steven Spielberg).

During an interview with the Huffington Post, father and son, were asked if Lando was pansexual in which Jonathan Kasdan replied:

“I would say yes. There’s a fluidity to Donald and Billy Dee Williams’ [portrayal of Lando’s] sexuality. I mean, I would have loved to have gotten a more explicitly LGBT character into this movie. I think it’s time, certainly, for that, and I love the fluidity – sort of the spectrum of sexuality that Donald appeals to and that droids are a part of.”

Okay, thoughts (I think a cup of tea is needed for this part) Let’s be realistic here folks. Will the Story or Plot of Solo: A Star Wars Story be in any way effect by this at all? No, no it won’t. You know what it’ll probably be? A line, a simple line of dialog or a scene or two merely hinting at the fact. And that will be it.

Lando is the smoothest man in the galaxy, do you really think that the Millennium Falcon in Solo: A Star Wars Story is that clean? We’ve all known the dude’s a player. You put a blacklight in the Falcon it would look like a Jackson Pollock painting. Probably why Han gutted it.

Okay I got carried away there. But that will be it. Either a line or a scene merely hinting at him being Pansexual. You know what it reminds me of (Any fans of Doctor Who here? Russel T Davis era?) Who remembers Captain Jack Harkness?

Appeared in both series 1 & 3 of the revived series as a smooth talking con man who would flirt with anyone with legs. (Sorry I’ve got to interrupt here, but you seriously need to see the Jonathan Ross interview he did years ago, it’s brilliant.) Jack would automatically flirted with most of the people he met, not caring about their gender or if they were human, alien or even robots. Past, Present or Future. The Doctor often told him to stop and would Jack often reply, “I’m just saying hello”. But as the Doctor pointed out, “For you, that’s flirting”. Once remarking, that on one occasion when he was sentenced to death, he got drunk and ended up in bed with both his executioners

Now Torchwood, a Doctor Who spinoff was a more “adult” themed show. But what you got with Captain Jack in Doctor Who was tame. A line or a hint and that would be it. Same thing will probably happen with Lando in Solo: A Star Wars Story. So far in Canon, we hardly know anything about the character of Lando before the events of Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back.

Is it something to up roar about? Probably not. It’ll be a minor thing either a line or a hint that won’t effect the plot one bit. Nothing to lose sleep over.
