Scotland’s Tallest Mountain to be Renamed “Kenobi” in Honour of Ewan McGregor

I have the “High Ground” in deed. Scotland’s tallest mountain Ben Nevis, which stands at 1,345 metres above sea level is to be renamed Mount Kenobi in honour of Scottish actor Ewan McGregor. Ironically known to locals of the surrounding area as “Ben” it rather fitting for the mountain to be renamed Kenobi. But it’s not just a name change Ben Nevis will be getting. As not only will the mountain be renamed Kenobi but will also be receiving a bronze statue of the actor as Obi Wan Kenobi on the top of it’s peak.

The mountain is a popular destination, attracting an estimated 100,000 ascents a year. The 700-metre (2,300 ft) cliffs of the north face are among the highest in Scotland, providing classic scrambles and rock climbs of all difficulties for climbers and mountaineers. The mountain is all that remains of a Devonian volcano that met a cataclysmic end in the Carboniferous period around 350 million years ago. Wait a minute, volcano, Kenobi, it’s like it was meant too be.

Ewan McGregor as you know, is most known for being cast as the young Obi-Wan Kenobi in the Star Wars Prequel Trilogy, the character was originally played by Sir Alec Guinness in original Star Wars back in 1977, which his real life uncle Denis Lawson, had played Wedge Antilles. While the Prequel Trilogy was met with some criticism, McGregor’s performance was well received. There are even rumours that he might even return for to the role for a Standalone film after Episode IX.

The decision to rename Ben Nevis has been a long one, dating back to 2005. When fans started writing to the Scottish Parliament after the release of Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. During the climax of the film Obi Wan faces his fallen apprentice and friend Anakin, who has become Darth Vader and after a fierce lightsaber duel jumps upon the top of a lava bank, warning his former apprentice:

Since Revenge of the Sith’s release, the quote has gain major popularity. As not only was it “literally” Obi Wan stating the obvious but showing the Jedi Master’s moral high ground.

If you have managed to read this far, April Fools. There is no name change or statue being commissioned. Making most of it up as I go along, apart from the actual facts about Ben Nevis. Hope it amused you as much as it did for me writing it. But only one is it April Fools, but it is also Easter. So happy Easter to you all.
