The Gand Species first appeared in Star Wars: The Empire Strikes back in 1980, made famous by Zuckuss who appeared along side Bounty Hunters 4-LOM, Bossk, IG-88, Dengar and of course Boba Fett. Gands were an insectoid sentient species native to the planet Gand that breathed ammonia, forcing them to wear respirators to survive in oxygen-rich atmospheres. As insectoids the Gands had large compound eyes and had an exoskeleton that acted like an natural armour. Allowing them to shrug off injuries that would usually cripple most other species.

Similar to Trandoshans, the Gand were able to regenerate lost or damaged limbs in a matter of days. While the Trandoshans could see in infrared , the Gand could see in ultraviolet spectrum which made for great night vision.

The Gand had a mystic tradition known as Findsman that dated back centuries on their fog-shrouded homeworld who were known for their uncanny tracking skills. The Gand bounty hunter Zuckuss was also a Findsman and one of the first of his species to venture off world. His talents as a Findsman made him a successful bounty hunter. The planet Gand could be found in the Outer Rim, it’s atmosphere was lethal to most outsiders wishing to visit the surface making the Gand an isolated race. Very few outsiders ever set foot on the planet.

The Gand society had a heavy importance on achievements on the individual. Beings had no name or worth until they proved themselves. Until they accomplished enough, like being a Findsman they were would referred to simply as Gand before earning the use of their family name.

They were seen as xenophobic species  and due to their planet’s unwelcoming environment most of the galaxy was happy leaving them be. Even the Galactic Empire didn’t bother with the Gand.
